A summer at Camp Sweyolakan is far more than going to camp. It’s an opportunity to positively impact kids and have summer fun in the process!
Camp Fire youth leaders develop strong character, life skills and values. They help kids understand the world around them and their impact on it. As campers learn to push themselves, they gain confidence, independence, leadership skills and a positive outlook. Summer camp teaches understanding, patience, responsibility and cooperation.
Are you a teen going into the 8th grade or higher? Are you passionate about serving others? Do you love working with kids who have special needs? The Camper Buddy program at Camp Sweyolakan Overnight Camp is a great opportunity to help others and have fun in the great outdoors!
Camper Buddies will spend the week at work and play with a special needs camper and enhance leadership qualities in the process. Your Buddy will need help to get to activities on time with the gear they need, they will need you to pay them special attention so that they can communicate their needs. Buddies are sure to improve their own communication skills as they work with counselors and campers to ensure their special friend is having a quality experience. Camper Buddies are required to complete the application process prior to acceptance and assignment in the program; Camper Buddies attend camp the session of their assignment at no charge. Please contact the Camp Fire Office for further information. Application available here.
How would you like to attend camp at no charge while building your leadership skills? Dishwashers and buglers are an essential part of making camp run and teens will grow through time management, responsibility and communication. Dishwashers and buglers must fulfill their duties but are free to participate in all other programming with their unit. Check out the Dishwasher Agreement or Bugler Agreement for more information. Teen volunteers must be entering the 8th grade in the fall, complete the application process, and provide one (1) recommendation prior to acceptance and assignment. Applications closed for 2018 season.
The Junior and Senior Youth Leadership Counselor in Training (CIT) program will help develop skills to make you a great camp counselor and competent leader of children in any venue! Skills will include communicating with children, listening, teaching positive behavior and values, understanding behavior and handling conflicts in positive ways, leading games and activities, and teaching outdoor skills. You will also learn about camp operation and the role and duties of camp administrator and staff. These skills will be valuable in any career that you choose!
Following successful completion of the Junior Leadership program, participants return the following year as a Senior.
All participants are required to complete the application process and are subject to acceptance prior to registration. All applicants must provide one written recommendation to be considered.
