Teen service and leadership are vital to building healthy communities and a better world. Camp Fire’s Teen Service and Leadership Programs provide a variety of opportunities in our community to help teens develop as effective and engaged citizens now.
The Program Aides in Learning Program (PAL) at Camp Dart-Lo day camp offers teens in grades 6-9 hands-on training and experience with camper groups. Teens work with adults and younger campers to develop camp program skills, behavior management and teaching skills. During this 2-week program, teens enjoy traditional camp activities while guiding younger campers in outdoor play, communications, service-learning and team-building. Along the way, teens discover their own “Sparks” and strengths.
Camp activities include swimming, outdoor skills, archery, singing, games, arts and crafts, nature, magic, storytelling, hiking, cookouts and more. The program varies with each age group.
Graduate PALs and teens in at least 10th grade may apply to volunteer as Counselor Assistants and Camper Buddies during Camp Dart-Lo Day Camp. They get hands-on experience leading young campers or working as a companion (Buddy) to a camper with special needs. To register for a PAL Program, click here.
Have you graduated from the Camp Dart-Lo PAL program or are you a teen going into the 10th grade or higher? Are you passionate about serving others? Do you love working with kids who have special needs? The Camper Buddy program is a great opportunity to help others and have fun in the great outdoors!
Camper Buddies will spend the week at work and play with a special needs camper and enhance leadership qualities in the process. Your Buddy will need help to get to activities on time with the gear they need, they will need you to pay them special attention so that they can communicate their needs. Buddies are sure to improve their own communication skills as they work with counselors and campers to ensure their special friend is having a quality experience.
